Mojang Studios, the company behind Minecraft has made it clear it will not be using NFTs in the game. This statement was made on Wednesday.

NFTs, also known as tokens that are not fungible, are unique digital assets that often take the form of digital artworks.

Other major gaming studios have also embraced the recent NFT craze and the gaming industry is seen by many as a huge market to grow for the tokens.

Mojang has made it clear that it will not join the bandwagon.

Mojang said that NFTs create models of exclusion, scarcity, which conflict with our guidelines as well as the character of Minecraft. NFTs aren''t inclusive of all of our communities and create a symbiosis of the haves and have-nots."

Mojang also seemed to be concerned that NFTs in Minecraft could be a source of fraudulent activity.

"The speculative pricing and investment mentality around NFTs takes the focus away from playing the game and encourages profiteering," the company said.

"We are also concerned about third-party NFTs which may not be reliable and could cost the players who buy them."

Mojang''s assertion is supported by the game''s popularity. Minecraft was the most played game in the US in the first three months of the year, according to data from market research company NPD Group.

Microsoft owns Mojang Studios. Microsoft did not respond immediately when contacted by Insider to inquire if Mojang''s statements were representative of Microsoft''s position an entire regarding NFTs.
