Microsoft Reveals ''Minecraft is home to an Astonishing 112 million Monthly Users

It''s been obvious to anyone paying to the news that Minecraft has been seeing an increase in popularity lately however, now we can quantify it to some degree.

This week, Microsoft has told Business Insider that Minecraft has risen to 112 million monthly gamers an increase of 20 million since the last time they released the figures in October of 2018. It''s a decade old and is still relevant.

Other than "it''s good and people like it" there are any number of reasons for the current growth of Minecraft. A new update was released in the midst of the ten-year anniversary and included lots of new content. PewDiePie is a 100 million-subscriber YouTuber, is credited for bringing the game back to the "influencer" scene. His channel was devoted to Minecraft for the last few months. Tlauncher Fortnite''s decline has been slow as players leave the massive hit to other games, including Minecraft.

Minecraft''s growth is even more impressive when you consider that, on most platforms, it''s not free, as is Fortnite. While some might credit Microsoft for including it in the Xbox Game Pass to increase the number of players but others might not.

Fortnite seems to be aware that Minecraft is attracted by players. This is why we have seen the birth and dedication to constructing Creative Mode in the game. But Minecraft remains the original game, and should continue to capitalize on its popularity with future releases like Minecraft Dungeons, which combines the original with Diablo-like dungeons and looting.

The most common comment I hear from Minecraft players is that it''s a game people enjoy returning to after a while. In this instance it was an effect of snowballs in which numerous players returned to it together that it was as if old friends could all join the game at the same time and have the same fun now as they did 3-8 years ago.

Although it may have seemed odd at the time, Microsoft''s purchase of Minecraft for $2.5 billion was a smart decision. They now have one of the most loved games in the world. I''m willing bet that Minecraft has 112 million monthly users which is more than Fortnite at the moment. It could even be competing with mobile games at the same level. It''s truly incredible.

Expect Minecraft to live on forever. It will continue to be relevant in the future with new releases such as Minecraft Dungeons, Minecraft Earth, and the AR play that will target Pokemon Go in the in the near future.
