The Kerem Tunnel, Israel''s first bicycle tunnel, was opened as part of Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycling route surrounds Jerusalem.

The tunnel connects the path between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The southern entrance is located in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban and its northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem, about half a mile close to the Kerem junction.

It is used today as an infrastructure tunnel. It also houses the fifth water line to Jerusalem of the Mekorot water company.

The current works include road construction, the installation of blowers as well as modern security and electrical systems to make the tunnel safe for the public to pass through all year round.


The Kerem Tunnel allows for access to unique recreational areas, such as Ein Kerem, a neighborhood that includes a biblical aquarium and zoo, as well as historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh and Ein Laban.
