The Kerem Tunnel, the first cycle tunnel in Israel, has been inaugurated as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle path that runs around Jerusalem, the capital city.

The tunnel runs along the Nahal Refaim-Emek Motza route. https://www.facebook.com/neveparitzki The southern entrance is located in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban and its northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem, about half a mile close to the Kerem junction.

The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was officially opened by Jerusalem''s Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin. It was also attended by Mayor Moshelion Avi Balehnikov Gihon Water Company chairman, as well as thousands of cyclists.

Jerusalem was once popular tourist destination because of its rich history. Elkin stated that, today in addition to its rich history, Jerusalem also incorporates modern tourists. "The inauguration [of] this tunnel project is yet another stage in the growth of Jerusalem as an ideal tourist destination for all types of travelers throughout Israel and all over the world."

The project was funded by the Elkin''s Ministry and the Tourism Ministry. It also included budgets for Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The project was done by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin said that the Kerem Tunnel project was a crucial element in achieving the vision of altering the way of transportation throughout Jerusalem. "The tunnel is set to connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path. It will connect with the various cycling routes that exist within the city. To make the tunnel accessible to the general public throughout the year, the works include road construction as well as the installing blowers.

The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation sites - including the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo, aquarium and the along with the historic natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
