נווה פריצקי The Kerem Tunnel, Israel''s newest bicycle tunnel, has been inaugurated as part of a 42-kilometer cycle route that runs through the capital.

The tunnel links the paths between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. Its southern entry is located within Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entrance, Nahal Ein Kerem, is just half a kilometer away from the Nahal Ein Kerem junction.

Elkin explained that the proposed tunnel is connected with the Jerusalem Ring Path and will link with existing bike paths. It will also be paved throughout the various neighborhoods. This will help cyclists and promote green transport in Jerusalem.


The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the 90s to move an important sewer line for the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is now being utilized as an infrastructure tunnel that includes the fifth waterline to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water corporation.

Road construction, installation , and testing of electrical and safety systems are just a few of the ongoing efforts to ensure that the tunnel is secure throughout the year.

The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to special recreation areas - including the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo and aquarium along with the historic natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
