The studio owned by Microsoft wrote on its blog Wednesday that NFTs in Minecraft "are generally not something we will allow or support." The company said that it was changing its Minecraft Usage Guidelines to specify that blockchain technology will not be allowed to be integrated into the Minecraft game client, and will not be used to create NFTs based on any in-game content, whether that''s skins, items or even mods.

The developers wrote that blockchain technology''s concept of digital ownership is based on "scarcity and exclusion" which "does not align with Minecraft values of inclusion in the creative process and playing with others." They also said that third-party NFTs could end costing players who purchase them, since they depend on those who develop blockchain technology "who might disappear without notice."

This is what actually was actually happening. Blockverse was an NFT project that was supposedly created for Minecraft was a scam to the tune of $1.2 million. It was sold NFT forms on OpenSeas and other websites. The project also included $Diamond cryptocurrency. The project creators removed all the money invested and shut down the website, Discord and Twitter accounts. This is often referred to as"rug pull "rug pull" and is very common in the crypto world.

The Minecraft developers did leave it open to possibly incorporating blockchain technology in the near future however, they added "we don''t have any plans for using blockchain technology in Minecraft right now."

It is likely that projects that were already working to integrate Minecraft into blockchains were not thrilled by the news. NFT Worlds, a blockchain-based company where users can purchase NFTs from digital environments, mostly Minecraft-were hit hard. The company issued an Discord message on its Twitter account declaring that they were trying to find solutions to the Minecraft EULA changes and that they were considering changing their strategy to create a Minecraft-like game platform.

Chiang declared that the game was created to be kid-friendly. The ERSB rating for Minecraft players is 10-years-old and up. The fact that there is a money-making investment plan built into the client does bring up a number of warnings and the possibility of abuse, particularly when you make children vulnerable. Chiang has reportedly said to Edge that "We must be clear and simple around how we plan to monetize in the game."

Meanwhile, other games specifically designed for kids like Roblox have been focusing on monetization and in-game promotional opportunities specifically designed for children. Users are incentivized to spend Roblux on in-game items while exploring worlds designed to promote brands such as Vans, Nike, and Ralph Lauren. The game''s creators revised their community standards last year to make a vague reference to NFTs in game.
