Minecraft Says it Wants nothing to do with NFTs, Blockchain

While some industries are still figuring out their thoughts on NFTs The video game community is stating it clearly: NFTs stand for "No F''n Thanks" in their field.

The most recent company to take a stand against non-fungible tokens: Mojang Studios, the developer of the hugely loved video game Minecraft.

In a statement released today on the official Minecraft website, which is titled "Minecraft and NFTs," the company stated that it will not allow any kind of blockchain or NFT integration into its game.

Mojang Studios and Minecraft laid out a few reasons for being against NFTs. They stated that fake shortages play a significant part in it. NFTs, also known as tokens that are not fungible, are basically digital assets kept on blockchain. A unique token is created and then linked to the media file to declare ownership of that piece which has turned NFTs into speculative assets.

The statement explains that Minecraft does not oppose making money, and cites the example of users charging for access to the Minecraft server as an approved use case. However, because NFTs would alter the gameplay dynamics and give players who have monetary advantages in games the game, the Minecraft developer is opposed to the technology.

"To ensure that Minecraft players enjoy an enjoyable and safe experience, blockchain technology is not allowed to be used into our Minecraft client and server applications, nor can be used to create NFTs associated with any game-related content, such as skins, worlds and other items, or other mods," declares the statement.

The developer also brought up concerns about the trustworthiness of third-party companies that mint Minecraft-related NFTs, and their tendencies to abandon projects, and fraudulently inflate prices on the NFT aftermarkets.

"No blockchain for block games," as Molly White of the website Web3 is Going Great concisely stated it. The website tracks the various scams, scams, and dramas happening in the Web3 world, which includes cryptocurrencies and NFT projects.

As White mentions that the value of current (and illegal) Minecraft NFT projects tanked on the news of Mojang Studios'' statement. NFT Worlds, also associated with the token, saw the value of the token as well as its NFT floor prices fall by more than 70 percent.

Minecraft''s Mojang Studios is far from the first video game company to be far away from NFTs. Gamers have expressed that they are not a fan of purchasing NFTs in addition to the video games they already have. Their skepticism about NFTs has forced the industry to follow suit. Sony recently announced Playstation Stars, a loyalty program that rewards gamers with digital collectibles. These digital collectibles do not constitute NFTs, according to the company.

"It''s certainly not NFTs. Absolutely not. It is not possible to trade or sell them. It is not using any Blockchain technology and certainly not NFTs," Grace Chen, Sony''s VP of network advertising and loyalty, said in an interview with The Washington Post.

Mojang Studios ended its statement by stating that they would keep track of the development of blockchain technology for future applications. However this leaves open the possibility of potential uses based on existing possibilities. However, gamers who hate NFTs can take another win, at least for the near future.
