Lego takes on Minecraft with video game

Lego is a Danish toy manufacturer has announced a new video game that is similar to Minecraft.



Lego Worlds is available today, priced at PS11.99 on the Steam gaming platform. The final release is expected in 2016, with classic and modern playsets as well as popular mini-figures.



Players'' feedback will be used to add features.



Lego already sells Minecraft playsets that let gamers build their virtual creations. Lego Worlds invites fans to do the reverse.



Tom Stone, TT Games director of management, said that Lego Worlds "embodies the physical, Lego brick building fun that fans have enjoyed for the years, but on a brand new digital platform that provides a completely new type of experience that includes the iconic bricks."



"From the brick-by-brick editor, to discovering a vast array of items, characters and creatures to populate your worlds - the creative possibilities are endless," he added.

Daniel Goldberg, who has written a book about the growth of Minecraft and Minecraft, said that he "was surprised that it has taken so long".



He claimed that Minecraft was exactly what Lego should have done 10 years ago.



"I''m sure it will be a huge success for them."



Markus Persson, the Swedish game designer who invented Minecraft has not shied away from his love of Lego. It appears that the love is mutual.



David Gram, Lego''s Marketing Director, stated in the past year that "Minecraft was a digital Lego." We only wish we had come up with it."



Mr. Goldberg believes that Mr. Persson who is also known as Notch will be "flattered by the outcome of the game."



He stated that Lego was his most-loved toy as a child, and that it was the primary source of inspiration for Minecraft. It was enjoyable to see things go full circle."

Lego is marketed at children , but also to the hardcore of adult enthusiasts.



Microsoft bought Minecraft in the year 2000. It has been a hit for both adults and kids.



"The gamers who play Minecraft has proven to be quite large and I''m sure there will be a place for both games," said Mr Goldberg.
