WoW and FFXIV WoW and FFXIV: The Game has been Boosted Raptr Playtime; ArcheAge Playtime "cratered"

Another month Another month, another Raptr report. Yesterday Raptr.com released its top PC games list for November and MMOs performed quite well. The Warlords of Draenor expansion has seen World of Warcraft rise to #2 on the list. Raptr's press release says that "The MMO’s monthly play time was up 71% versus October." Although WoW "likelywas drawing from League of Legends numbers, it was not able to take over the MOBA's #1 position.

Other MMOs, ArcheAge playtime "cratered by 39.97 percent," but World of Tanks and Final Fantasy XIV both saw rises in theirs. Raptr states that Guild Wars 2 rose in rank, but it lost playing time in November over October. SWTOR has fallen two places since October.

As with all of our roundups, Raptr roundups come with the caveat that they represent Raptr users on PC, not all gamers. Certain MMO studios are also known to increase their Raptr numbers through in-game incentives. These games may not release information on their players, so you might consider this the next best indicator of popularity other than touring the servers.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Dragon Age: Inquisition made their debuts on the Top Played List this month. World of Warcraft's newest expansion gave the MMO a boost after a ten-year absence. outguessing Spider Solitaire also made a surprise return to the top 20 list after a long absence. The culprits know who they are.

Highlights

League of Legends remained in first place in November, despite losing 15.88 percent of the time played in comparison to October. The game peaked in the first week of November in the wake of the Halloween sales event. While gameplay remained steady throughout the month, the 4.20 update introduced queues that were long and impacted play time.

World of Warcraft's Warlords of Draenor likely took time from LoL along with other major games. The MMO's monthly play time was up 71.3 percent over October. As was expected the expansion and the games ten-year anniversary celebrations have significantly affected daily playtime that roughly doubled following the launch of the Draenor expansion, and continued to increase until the November's end.

The rest of the top five games were not as fortunate. DOTA 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Smite saw a net decrease in hours. Smite beat ArcheAge for the fifth position. DOTA 2 and CS.GO saw double-digit drops (12.59 percent and 11.59 percent, respectively) however Smite was down less that 1percent.

Archeage dropped by 39.97% and Smite has seen a slight climb up the rankings.

The downward trend continued with Minecraft (-11.70 percent), Diablo III (down nearly 45% -- we blame WoW for this) and Hearthstone (-13.11%, though we expect a rebound in December due to Goblins against Gnomes).

Chart newcomer Dragon Age: Inquisition made a strong entrance into November's Most PlayedChart, placing tenth despite its release in late November.

World of Tanks saw a lower playtime, but it managed to gain 7.72 percent more playtime than October. Although the WGLNA Gold League Qualifying Rounds were held throughout the month, the game was at its peak during the Thanksgiving weekend because of the XP multipliers, holiday sales on premium items and the Thanksgiving weekend.

Final Fantasy XIV increased in the length of play by 20.97%. The rise could be attributed to the late-October and early November hotfixes for the game, as well as the release of the Game of the Year edition which included an additional 60 free days of adventure (plus all the previously released content). Mid-month DDOS attacks that caused login issues, didn't have a major impact on game play.

Warframe and Guild Wars 2 each rose in popularity, despite losing play time in November compared to October. Warframe hosted a Movember community event that led to the setting of a Guinness World Record. Guild Wars 2's Tangled Path content released with new areas items, skins, and more.

Call of Duty: Advance Warfare - always more of an console juggernaut, launched in November and based upon current trends we may not be able to have it on the list of December's Most Played.

Spider Solitaire was re-invented into Most Played for the first time since October 2013. It turns out that Thanksgiving isn't just about football, turkey, and arguing with relatives -- it's also about playing Solitaire as the number of hours played during the month reached their peak on the 27th of November.
