''Minecraft'' Studio Wants nothing to be Associated With NFTs

Don''t expect to purchase creeper skins as an NFT (non-fungible token) and plug it into your Minecraft server in the near future. Mojang has taken a strong position against the hugely popular game''s involvement with NFTs and blockchain technology. "[Toensure that Minecraft players enjoy a safe, inclusive experience, blockchain technology is not allowed to be integrated into our Minecraft server or client applications, nor may it be utilized to create NFTs linked to any game content, including skins and worlds, persona objects, or any other mods," Mojang stated in an announcement. Minecraft servers It will soon update the game’s guidelines accordingly.

Minecraft has a marketplace where people can sell their creations to others to use. Mojang notes that some companies recently began offering NFTs which are linked to the game. Certain NFTs can be purchased in exchange for Minecraft skin packs or world files. The studio has said that it could have been possible for players to earn Minecraft NFTs through activities they completed inside the game, or elsewhere. Mojang isn''t a fan of any of this.

It stated that each of these uses of NFTs or other blockchain technologies creates digital owner based on scarcity and exclusion, which isn''t in line with Minecraft values of creative inclusion. "NFTs are not inclusive of our community and create a situation of the haves and have-nots."

While Minecraft server owners are permitted to charge users for access, Mojang rules state that everyone should have access to the same functionality and content. "NFTs, however, can create models of scarcity and exclusion that conflict with our guidelines and the spirit of Minecraft," the studio stated.

Mojang also expressed its concern over the uncertain nature of NFTs and pointed out that some have been sold at "artificially or fraudulently overinflated prices." It''s not a great idea to allow Minecraft to support NFTs due to its millions of young users. "The speculation about prices and investment mentality around NFTs takes the focus away from playing the game and encourages profiteering, which we believe is not in line with the long-term enjoyment and success of our players," Mojang said.

The studio and Microsoft the parent company, have every reason to be wary of blockchain technology or NFTs. There is a huge protest from the general gaming community against those technologies. Additionally, cryptocurrency prices have plummeted and the NFT market has dwindled. Even the erstwhile leader in the blockchain gaming space, Axie Infinity, was the victim of a major hack (with victims losing out as a result) and its daily player numbers have fallen by more than two-thirds over the past few months.

Some other major players in the gaming industry have already shied away from NFTs and blockchain. Last October, Steam banned games that enable cryptocurrency and NFT trading. Sony recently announced the PlayStation Rewards program that includes digital collectibles. It stressed that these cannot be exchanged and the program does not include NFTs or blockchain.

However, Mojang isn''t completely rejecting the blockchain. The company said it will be monitoring the evolution of the technology to "determine if it will allow for safer experiences or other practical and inclusive applications in gaming."
