How To Add A SRV Record To Your Minecraft Server

With the Minecraft 1.3 patch, a SRV record can be used to connect with a hostname. It does not require the hostname''s specific port number. i.e. yourserver.no-ip.biz:12959.

The SRV record should be for Minecraft.

_minecraft._tcp.name Class TTL priority weight port target

Logging into your No-IP account will allow you to create an SRV for your hostname. Select "My Services" > "DNS Records", then click "Modify" next your hostname.

Next, locate Advanced Records and click SRV. Advanced records can only be added to Enhanced DNS and Plus ManagedDNS accounts. You will need to upgrade your account if you would like the ability to add advanced records.)

Once on the SRV record page, you will need to enter in the following information: 1. Service: minecraft (Underscore will automatically be applied. 2. Protocol: TCP 3. Priority: 0 4. Weight: 5 5. Target: Your Minecraft hostname. 6. Port: The port your Minecraft server is set to use. 7. TTL: You can leave as default

Once the required information has been entered, click "Submit".

Once you have implemented your SRV record, you will need to wait 1-5 minutes for the record to propagate.

Your friends should then be able to connect to your Minecraft server using just your hostname.

Note: You will need our Enhanced Dynamic Domain package to create an SRV file. Upgrade to Enhanced Dynamic DNS for as little as $1.99 USD per month.

The following benefits are available with No-IP enhanced service:

If you need more hostnames than that, there are additional hostname plans available. 4. There are many domains you can choose from when you create a host. 5. One Trustcor Standard DV SSL certificate

Logging in to your No-IP account allows you to upgrade the DNS service to Enhanced. You can then click the "Upgrade To Enhanced" button under the "Account Overview Box" box to the right of your dashboard.
