How Do I Stop RuneScape From Downloading Cache On A Metered Connection (mobile Data)?

How do I stop RuneScape from downloading cache on a metered connection (mobile data)?

Hey guys!

So the WiFi at our house is too slow for playing RS reliably. I thought I could just use mobile data instead since it's much faster. And turned on my phone's hotspot connection. Well, I found out the hard way how much data RS needs to download the cache... and burned through 6GB of data in just 3 hours.

I would've been OK with RuneScape using >15GB of data for whatever if only mobile data wasn't so damn expensive. But it is what it is.

So is there any way to do this at all? In the meantime, I'm just letting the cache download using WiFi but it's taking too long for obvious reasons.

Also, any tips for reducing data usage while playing? Safebin.net

Thanks a bunch!

Make sure to disable all audio; it's streamed directly from the servers, and disabling all audio stops streaming, so it'll save some data.

As for actually preventing cache downloading, that's not possible to my knowledge. Downloading it on your slow wifi connection is your only alternative to downloading it via your expensive mobile data. Or, don't play RS at all. There're no other options, I'm afraid.

Once the cache is done you won't use nearly as much

If I understand correctly, you have to download the cache in order to play the game, it's how they can send you nxt for like 50mb. As others have said it's a one time download so just start leaving it on overnight to download the cache. Even if you didn't download all of it you would still be forced to download the parts of the game you're interacting with so I don't think not downloading it is possible

That massive download is only for the first time

Every now and then they force the client to re-download the cache without warning, so this is likely to pop up and surprise you. After a Monday update I try to only play on wifi for a short time before going back to data.
