About the Author
Robert H. Friis, PhD, obtained his doctorate at Columbia University and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan. Berkeley University awarded him a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. Epidemiology is his field of expertise and he has been teaching and conducting research for more than three decades. In the past, he was an assistant professor at Columbia University School of Public Health, an assistant professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and an assistant professor at Brooklyn College, the City University of New York. Afterwards, he served as a public health official in Orange County, California. As a faculty member at the University of California, Irvine, he held positions in the Departments of Medicine, Neurology, and School of Social Ecology. He teaches introductory epidemiology and biostatistics at California State University, Long Beach, where he is Professor and Chair of the Health Science Department. More than 50 professional and scientific articles have been published by him. The American Public Health Association''s epidemiology section and the Society for Epidemiologic Research include him among their members. The University of California, Irvine has also appointed him as Clinical Professor of Community and Environmental Medicine. Video Jug features the author as the expert in epidemiology.
