Gameplay Scenarios Are Nonetheless Under Development

Social distancing guidelines led to in response to the pandemic made the conventional operation of a simulation centre with restricted flooring house impossible. To proceed offering coaching to a better number of candidates, strategies for recreating the simulation experience with remote candidates have been devised and explored:

A: Conversational avatar over Zoom.

Utilizing streaming software, our pre-present conversational avatar is presented on a Zoom name for conversational simulation with remote candidates.

B: Gameplay fashion scenarios on CenarioVR.

Candidates navigate a clinical room surroundings with buttons and menus to undertake a state of affairs. PREMIUM CONTENT inputs to progress the situation.

C: Distant In-Ear (RIE) coaching.

Using a wireless earbud, candidates talk remotely with centre workers (‘operatives’) who comply with the instructions given by candidates watching a dwell Zoom feed. Three variations have been explored:

C1: Candidates remotely watch the feed while linked to an operative by an audio name.

C2: Candidates message their goal operative on Zoom and text-to-speech software reads these messages to the operatives.

C3: Zoom breakout rooms/separate WhatsApp video calls connect candidates to focus on operatives, the place candidates see from the operative’s perspective by way of a head-mounted digicam.

D: Digital environments

D1: Private Worlds within VRChat host eventualities.

D2: GOSH’s Minecraft server hosts situations.

Proposals have been scored 0-10 in: Crew Interactivity, Fidelity, Range of Scenarios and Ease of Implementation. Summed whole scores were:

So far, probably the most viable options have been trialled.

Avatar use over Zoom proved straightforward to set up and courses using it are planned.

RIE coaching’s trial classes had operatives reporting communication inefficiencies. In response, the model was revised: the wider group now coaches the entire room over Zoom.

Gameplay situations are still below development. Externally produced situations are being scrutinised.
