Minecraft Added Fireflies To The 1.19 Update, So Kids'' Real Pet Frogs Won''t Croak.

Minecraft 1.19 is available today, loading up the Wild Update''s new biomes, mobs, and other technical improvements. It''s the final push for (almost all) the new features that were first introduced to players at Minecraft Live 2020. It also marks the end of three major updates.

As usual, there will be no secrets hidden on the day of launch, Agnes Larsson, Minecraft game director and Ulraf Vaknin, the developer, assure me. Mojang is committed feedback or else why bother with snapshot builds, betas or release candidates? The developers also discussed some of the changes 1.19 underwent after users got involved.

The Wardens, which are dangerous, may have experienced the most changes in the course of development. Vaknin says, "That was a place we looked to both our technical as well as challenge players for feedback." In their March debut photo, the Wardens were already quite frightening when I first tried to play with them. LETRASTRADUCIDAS.COM made an intense, loud heartbeat sound when they were agitated and screamed in my face.

They now have a sonic attack too, a ranged ability emanating from their chests to fight players who were able to cleverly creep out of their long arms reach. The Skulk, those new Warden-summoning, snitch-y blocks in the Deep Dark biome, also changed in response to feedback from players who appreciate the redstone tech aspect of Minecraft.

Vaknin says, "It''s quite technical." He then explains that the Skulk sensors stopped responding to the first sound in the code and now respond to the nearest sound. "We discovered some contraptions players attempted to create, but they didn''t work due to the quirkiness of the code and we changed it to make it feel more natural."

Mojang continues to make a big impact on feedback. In the weeks leading to the Wild Update, fireflies, originally pitched as frog food for Minecraft Live 2020, were the subject of controversy. A recent video of Q&A was titled "What happened the fireflies in Minecraft 1.19?"

In that video, the producer Anna Lundgren explained that players had warned that fireflies can be poisonous to Frogs. Larsson and Vaknin explained that it wasn’t just players who made the call. "I got reached out to by pet shop owners who said there was a problem with people not being educated about this, and there are memes about frogs eating fireflies," Vaknin says. "So people already make this error and even if Minecraft increases the risk, it only makes it worse."

"We are able to reach millions of players," Larsson says. Larsson says, "And that should come with a great responsibility. We realized that the release of a feature like fireflies, which can be poisonous for frogs and then letting Frogs eat them could result in people killing real frogs.

We have millions of players, and this should be a source of immense responsibility.

My gut reaction is to argue that developers can change their minds about in-development features for just about any reason, but Larsson''s more measured explanation is probably the more sensible one. Minecraft has been more than an entertainment tool for a long time to this point, and has been marketing itself as a learning tool, too. New Minecraft features aren''t limited to Bedrock or Java editions or PC vs Xbox interfaces, Mojang also has to consider its roles as both entertainment and educational for its large number of young children.

Larsson says that the new bugs were more limited without fireflies as food for frogs. Mojang decided to eliminate them completely and send them back to the grand idea catalog. This will allow Mojang to concentrate on other aspects of the pipeline.

In terms of what they''re personally looking forward to in the new 1.19 features, Vaknin is excited about seeing new Allay friends flying around buildings and houses. Larsson is a player after my heart, is excited about finding new mangrove swamps, and creating new builds with the reddish mangrove wood set and mud blocks.

Minecraft 1.19 is available as a new version within your Minecraft Launcher. It includes a lengthy list of notes on the patch. Today also happens to be the day when all Minecraft players can access both Java and Bedrock versions of the game even if they had one or the other.
