Minecraft Sells 54 Million Copies Console Editions, PC Editions Of Minecraft Pass PC


Popular blocky sandbox game Minecraft is close to 54 million copies sold across all platforms, claims Mojang's Patrick Geuder, who also announced on Twitter that the console (Xbox 360 and PS3) versions of the game have now exceeded sales of the PC and Mac versions. The game will be available on Xbox One, PS4 or Vita in August. The Vita version of the game is Cross-Buy compatible and free for players who own the PS3 version. Xbox 360 and PS4 owners who own the game on their Xbox 360 or PS3 will now be able to download the most recent versions for $5.



The alpha version of Minecraft was released in May 2009. This was two years prior to its full release in November of 2011. Mojang and its creator Markus "Notch" Persson have celebrated many sales milestones since then, with the most recent noting that 15 million copies of the PC version were sold as of April. minecraft prison servers sold 12 million copies, and the Pocket Edition for iOS or Android has reached 21 million.
