Minecraft Java Edition Will Soon Require A Microsoft Account

Following Mojang''s acquisition by Microsoft, Minecraft Java Edition has been running as is. Bedrock Edition was created to integrate with Microsoft''s account system however, Java has been operating on its own Mojang account island until the present. Java Edition will soon require an Microsoft account to play, but you''ll at least receive a free cape for your problems.

You''ll need to transfer your Java or Mojang account to the Microsoft account system in the early part of 2021. Mojang claims this is to introduce two-factor authentication in order to improve security. However it will also allow for enhanced parental controls, chat blocking, invitation blocking, and account integration with Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons.

Mojang does not plan to alter Minecraft mods or PvP. https://kd76.com/ and Bedrock will remain completely separate games. You''ll continue to be able to play using your current Java username, though if you''re creating a Microsoft account for the first time, you may have to swap account names. You can join your Minecraft sign-ins if you already have a Microsoft account.

To make it easier to cope with the transition, Mojang is giving away what was once Java Edition''s most sought-after item that was a cape. Participating in the migration will get you a free cape. While it will not have the Minecon exclusive designs but it will let everyone feel a bit royal.

Although nothing immediate is changing the situation, players do have concerns, including that Microsoft''s stricter terms of service could make bans more frequent, locking certain gamers out of access to Minecraft.

More details are available in the FAQ and the official announcement. We''ll find out how it plays out in 2021, in the beginning of the year.
