Java Edition Locks Out Old Accounts In March

In 2020, the developers announced a major update for Minecraft: Java Edition. Players will soon have to change their Mojang account into a Microsoft account to continue playing. This is "soon" in terms of relative time, since we're still not quite at the deadline however, the developers have recently confirmed the date and put out the final call for account migration.

You won't be able to play Minecraft: Java Edition if you have a Mojang account. To "improved security, player safety and security" the developers are encouraging everyone to switch to Microsoft accounts. They are offering free Minecraft caps to encourage users to do so.

You can get all the details on how to migrate your account here. WIKIMEDIA will be supported as normal following the change, and will remain an independent entity from Bedrock. This is a pure unification of the account systems. You can keep your old username. All you require is an Xbox gamertag.
