Jason Momoa To Star In ''Minecraft'' Movie For Warner Bros


Warner Bros. is looking for a new actor to join Aquaman and Dune. Premium ebooks is currently in talks to be a part of the live-action Minecraft movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Jared Hess, Napoleon Dynamite filmmaker, will oversee the project based on the popular videogame.



Dune producer Mary Parent and Roy Lee will produce, with Jill Messick receiving a posthumous producing credit for developing the film prior to her death in 2018. Executive producers include Jon Berg, Cale Boyter and Jon Spaihts. The video game is produced by Mojang Studios in Sweden. Vu Bui and Lydia Winters also produce the film.



Minecraft, which debuted in 2011 lets players use blocks to create structures and worlds. The game became a cult with 100 million players within a short time after the game''s launch. In 2014, Microsoft bought Mojang for $2.5 Billion.



Warners has been developing an idea that is based on the game for a long time with Shawn Levy and It''s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney among those who have been attached to direct.



Gaming films have been on a hot trend in recent years and this includes 20th Century launching a hit franchise with Ryan Reynolds'' Free Guy last year, and Paramount finding success with its Sonic sequel earlier this month.



Momoa and Warners are set to release Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom in March 2023. The film is the sequel to Aquaman (2018), which made $1 billion. Momoa is repped by WME and Edelstein Laird. Hess is represented by UTA and Sloane Offer.
