Minecraft Java Edition Will Soon Require A Microsoft Account

Following Mojang's acquisition by Microsoft, Minecraft Java Edition is still in operation. Bedrock Edition came along to integrate with the Microsoft account system, but Java has been operating on its own Mojang account island until now. Java Edition will soon require an Microsoft account to play, but you'll at least receive an unpaid cape to help you with your problems.

You'll need to transfer your Java or Mojang account to the Microsoft account system in the early part of 2021. Mojang claims this is to introduce two-factor authentication to increase security. However, it will also allow enhanced parental controls, chat blocking, invitation blocking, and integration of accounts with Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons.

In terms of Minecraft Mods and PvP, Mojang says absolutely nothing is changing. Java and Bedrock will remain completely separate games. Although you can continue to use your Java username, you might require changing your account name if you sign up for an account on a Microsoft account. You can combine your Minecraft logins if you already have a Microsoft account.

Mojang offers a capethat was previously the most exclusive Java Edition item: to facilitate the transition. Participating in the migration will provide you with a cape for free. While it won't have the Minecon exclusive patterns but it will let everyone feel a bit royal.

Although nothing immediate is changing however, players have some concerns, including the fact that Microsoft's more stipulations of service might make bans more frequent, and could lock some players out of accessing Minecraft.

More details are available in the FAQ and official announcement. minecraft roleplay servers 'll see how this shakes out in the first quarter of 2021.
