Halo Infinite E3 Trailer Promises Epic Multiplayer Battles When It Launches Later This Year

I trust the team, I trust the progress they’re making, and I have confidence in Halo infinite and I think that’s all that needs to be said there. In the same video, design head Jerry Hook discusses the delicate balance the team is facing when making Halo Infinite. "We have to be able to respect that legacy that we've come from to help make sure that Halo doesn't just become an amalgamation of what the market is currently doing, but that what makes halo unique remains unique for our players, our community, and for the industry," Hook says. "In addition to games from across four generations of consoles, our leading game subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, will continue to have our first-party games, like Halo Infinite, included at their launch," Spencer says.

In the story, the Banished, led by Brute War Chief Escharum, have declared victory over the UNSC forces and taken over a Halo ring. Some of the Covenant enemy types here look familiar, too, but the presence of the Banished should present a new spin on the Brute enemies from classic Halo games like Halo 3. November 15 falls on a Monday, while games typically release on Tuesday in the US and Friday in the UK, but it would make sense if Halo Infinite came out during the week of its anniversary, so a November 16 release date isn't beyond the realms of possibility. A November release date looks most likely, especially given that a Halo Infinite actor recently stated the game has been "pushed to later November this year" and that Halo's 20th anniversary takes place on November 15, 2021. For months, Microsoft and 343 Industries touted a 2020 release date that coincided with the launch of the Xbox Series X (though Halo Infinite will be a cross-generation title).

"Social playlists and custom matches are open to all, you can play on any platform and any device with anyone you like," PC development lead Mike Romero explained in a blog post. Halo Infinite will have permanent battle passes that never expire, according to lead player investment designer Christopher Blohm. That means if you buy a Halo Infinite Battle Pass, you'll keep it forever, and if you buy a new one, you can choose which pass to put your progression towards. So, if you've got your eyes on a cool cosmetic and it's later in a battle pass, you don't have to grind in a certain amount of time to get it - and that's a pretty big deal in the world of the gaming battle pass. "Whether you're a returning player ready to check out the Master Chief's new campaign or brand new to the franchise, Halo Infinite builds on the legacy foundations of the series' sandbox-driven gameplay, including Big Team Battle and Arena," the new trailer's description reads.

The game was originally planned for a release on November 10, as an Xbox Series X launch title. As seen in the gameplay reveal, Halo Infinite will have a more open world than past Halo games. The section we got a look at was several hours into the game, at which point it sounds like Master Chief can tackle various objectives, though 343 says there's still definitely a linear story to follow. We got our first look at Halo Infinite in action in a gameplay reveal during Microsoft's Xbox Games showcase for July 2020.

"There's a lot of open gameplay in those previous games, but they're always in these linear levels. This time players will have the freedom to explore the ring. But we are telling a story with a beginning, middle, and end that we want to carry the player through as you go." A Reddit post from October has resurfaced which points to Halo Infinite getting a battle royale mode. The Reddit user goes on to say that "343 has wanted to make this BR unlike any to come before and there are some BIG and I mean BIG plans for this", however, they've since come forward to admit that their leak was fake.

In January 2020, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty confirmed that the studio had no immediate plans for Xbox Series X exclusives at launch, preferring to phase out compatibility with older hardware over a longer period, similar to PCs. Development was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, forcing developers to work from home. After the Xbox Games Showcase on July 23, 2020, 343 Studio Head Chris Lee stated that a public beta is unlikely due to the impact of the ongoing pandemic, despite Microsoft stating at E that there would be a public beta ahead of launch. The fresh two-minute sneak peak debuted at major gaming conference E3, running virtually this year due to the pandemic.

In a 2018 Mixer stream, 343 Industries Narrative Writer Jeff Easterling famously quipped that "the only BR we're interested in is the Battle Rifle," effectively confirming that the studio isn't planning to add a battle royale mode into Halo Infinite currently. Additionally, Master Chief can now use equipment pickups such as grappling hooks or deployable shields that can be found and upgraded in the world, similar to Halo 3. Notably, locational damage may be in the game as well, as Chief is seen shooting a charging Brute's legs to force it to stop. Halo Infinite is built on the new "Slipspace Engine," developed internally at the studio alongside the game. The in-engine reveal trailer focused heavily on showcasing its potential, indicating the game will offer a significant visual upgrade over previous titles.
