How should I dress for summer in Canada?

In Canada, the summer vacation season starts from May to October. Weather conditions in eastern Canada and western Canada can be quite variable throughout the summer months. The best way to prepare is to wear diapers. Don't hesitate to print our packing list so you don't forget anything!

Here is a guide to take-out clothes:

Light clothing

Light clothing (T-shirt, shorts, tank top, …) will be more useful in July and August, but the days can still be hot in June and September.

Warmer clothing

You will need warmer clothes (pants, jeans, sweatshirts, long-sleeved shirts, ...) throughout the summer. The evenings can be quite cool even in July and August. Also good for layering. You may want to bring something a little fancier to restaurants or other social outings.

Sweater

Always bring a fleece (or wool) sweater at any time of the year.

Raincoat or light jacket

A raincoat or a rain jacket could be useful for rainy days. A breathable rain jacket (eg Gore-Tex) over a sweater is a winning combination for colder nights.

Socks and underwear

You may want to pack one or two pairs of woolen socks, especially in May-June and September-October. They can also be useful in July and August if you plan to do water sports or if your feet tend to get cold.

Shoes and sandals

You will need a good pair of walking shoes, both in town and for exploring the great outdoors. Everyone walks a lot on vacation. It is a good idea to have 2 pairs of shoes in case of rain. You can enjoy the sandals in July and August.

Swimsuit and pajamas

Don't forget your swimsuit for the beach, the pool and water sports!

Hats

A hat on board is highly recommended to protect you from the sun. It might be a good idea to bring a warm hat (toque) for cool weather (or ocean / mountain tours): remember, you lose 70% of your body heat by the head. A light scarf could also be useful.
